A wonderful week with lots to celebrate! It has been another busy and exciting week. I've been so impressed with the girls' enthusiasm and engagement across the curriculum. This week's Theme Week focused on the art of negotiation. It was fascinating to see the students develop their skills in assembly. I have no doubt some parents might find themselves on the receiving end of some very persuasive arguments this weekend - be prepared – requests for increased pocket money or an extra 30 minutes of bedtime might be on the cards! This week, we came together as a school community to celebrate Children's Mental Health Awareness Week, reinforcing the importance of wellbeing, support, and open conversations. It was truly inspiring to see our students wearing their green ribbons with pride, symbolising their commitment to raising awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health. Throughout the week, students and staff engaged in meaningful discussions about mental wellbeing, highlighting the importance of checking in with ourselves and others. Activities and reflections encouraged everyone to prioritise self-care and to recognise that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. This initiative provided a valuable reminder that no one is alone and that our school is where everyone should feel supported and heard. Let’s continue to look out for one another and keep the conversation going beyond this week! We are also thrilled to welcome Mrs Iwobi to our team as our new Head of PE. Mrs Iwobi joins us with a wealth of experience and a real passion for developing sport and physical activity within schools. She has been teaching for 26 years, a former International GB Long Jump athlete, joining us from an autistic school and Mrs Iwobi is looking forward to making an impact within our Sports department. We are confident that she will be a fantastic asset to our school and will play a key role in the continued growth of PE and Sport for our girls. Finally, this is a reminder that the deadline for signing up for our exciting Activities Week is Friday, February 7th. This promises to be fantastic week, filled with fun and enriching experiences. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Calderwood. I wish you all a wonderful and restful weekend. Ms Phelps Head |

Student Spotlight |
Year 9’s Rising Star This week, we’re shining the spotlight on a talented Year 9 student who has a passion for the arts and a love for acting. When it comes to subjects, Zara-Moon's favourites are Music, French, and Drama—but Drama stands out the most. Zara-Moon enjoys stepping into different characters and bringing stories to life. If she had the chance, she’d love to star in a mystery film, but if she had to pick a favourite movie, Pirates of the Caribbean would win every time! Jack Sparrow is her favourite character because of his humour and unpredictability. Being part of the school community has been a rewarding experience. At the start of the year, Zara-Moon and her peers provided support to younger students, helping them settle in. Zara-Moon values the many opportunities available at school, from extracurricular activities to clubs, especially in Drama, which she has enjoyed both in and outside of school. |
When asked what Zara-Moon would like others to know about her, she shared that she’s an introvert and sometimes feels uncomfortable around new people—unless they’re kind. However, acting has been a confidence booster, helping her step out of her comfort zone and overcome her shyness. With her passion for drama and storytelling, we can’t wait to see where her talents take her next! |
Pre-Senior A Burst of Colour: Van Gogh-Inspired Art Project |
This week, our Pre-Seniors took inspiration from the iconic Vincent van Gogh, known for his expressive brushstrokes and vivid use of colour. Channeling his artistic spirit, each student designed and coloured their own unique flower petal, experimenting with different shades and techniques. Once completed, the petals will be cut out and pieced together, forming a beautiful, large-scale flower. The final masterpiece will be revealed in next week's newsletter. |
Year 7 Science |
Get Creative with the Periodic Table! Year 7 students have been bringing chemistry to life in a fun and creative way! As part of their science studies, they have been exploring the elements of the periodic table by designing their own cartoon-style representations of elements such as Fe (Iron), Po (Polonium), and even Woody! The challenge?: To use their knowledge of the elements to create characters that reflect their properties. But how do you know if something is wood? That’s exactly the kind of scientific thinking our students have been applying! Through clever illustrations and creative storytelling, they have been developing a deeper understanding of how elements are found and used in the world around us. This engaging activity has encouraged both scientific curiosity and artistic expression, making learning about Chemistry both interactive and memorable. Well done, Year 7! We can’t wait to see more of your fantastic element-inspired creations. |
Year 8 Religious Studies |
Thoughtful Discussions and Prayers In a recent Religious Studies (RS) lesson, the students had discussions around a programme they watched, which focused on the biblical parable of the sheep and the goats. In the story, Jesus explains that the sheep are placed on His right, while the goats are on His left. Some students had difficulty grasping the concept, but Tess kindly explained the meaning behind the parable, helping them understand the distinction between those who follow Jesus' teachings and those who do not. At the end of the class, Holly and Mercedes led a reflective prayer, praying for important global issues such as the victims of recent plane crashes, the devastating wildfires in LA, and the ongoing wars around the world. Miss Griffiths commended the class for their thoughtfulness, praising their empathy and compassion for those affected by these events. |
Mercedes then read a prayer aloud. Students who may not share the same religious beliefs were encouraged to listen to the words and reflect in their own way. For those who preferred not to make the sign of the cross, their preferences were understood and respected, creating an inclusive and supportive environment. It was a powerful moment of reflection and empathy, demonstrating the kindness and thoughtfulness of our students as they pray for others in need. |
Year 10 Bake Sale |
Non-Uniform Day was a fantastic success, with students and staff coming together to support a great cause. As part of the fundraising efforts, our Year 10 students hosted a bake sale at break time, offering a delicious selection of homemade cakes and treats. Thanks to everyone's generosity and enthusiasm, we are delighted to announce that we raised £238.83 for MIND, a charity dedicated to supporting mental health. A huge thank you to everyone who donated, baked, and participated; your support makes a real difference! |
Year 11 Music and Drama |
Exploring Bennie and the Jets GCSE Music Year 11 students have been diving into their GCSE Music studies, focusing on listening and analysis skills in preparation for their exams. This week, they explored Bennie and the Jets, the iconic 1973 hit by Elton John, carefully examining the song’s musical elements between 0:10 and 1:32. As part of their listening exercise, students analysed the use of syncopation, accents, and rests, paying close attention to the fast-paced rhythms created by semiquavers. They discussed how these elements contribute to the song’s distinctive groove and character. A key part of the task was identifying changes in vocal texture, examining the role of backing vocals, and understanding how different layers of sound interact through masking. Students were also challenged to determine the decade in which the song was recorded. They noted that the early 1970s sound is distinct from the 1980s, where synthesizers and electronic drums became more prominent. Another area of focus was bars 16-18, where the piano chords play a significant role. The students identified how single, strong piano chords provide a rhythmic foundation, adding to the song’s signature sound. |
Daisy Pulls It Off Our talented Year 11 GCSE Drama students recently took to the stage as part of their Component 3 – Scripted Performance assessment. |
Anna, Sylvie, and Valentina delivered a fantastic performance, with Nephele taking on the role of the teacher (seen above) in a scene from Daisy Pulls It Off, a lighthearted yet thought-provoking play by Denise Deegan. Set in an all-girls boarding school in the 1920s, Daisy Pulls It Off playfully explores themes of friendship, rivalry, and perseverance. The students showcased their ability to bring the script to life, demonstrating strong characterisation, expressive dialogue delivery, and confident stage presence. |
Sixth Form Mathematics |
This week, one of our dedicated Sixth Form students, Laura, has been fully immersed in preparing for her A-Level Maths test on Friday. She’s been working through the challenging topic of implicit differentiation, a method used to differentiate equations where the variables are intertwined. It’s a tricky concept, but she’s been methodically tackling questions from every part of the chapter, ensuring she grasps each step before moving on to the next. Alongside her Maths studies, she’s also pursuing Business and Psychology. Balancing these three subjects isn’t easy, but her passion and determination drive her forward. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to refining her understanding in each area, making steady progress every day. |
More News |
On Friday, 31st January, our Pre-Senior to Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to visit Bletchley Park, the historic site known for its pivotal role in World War II codebreaking. The visit included a guided tour of the grounds, with a special stop at the memorial dedicated to the Polish codebreakers, whose vital contributions helped the British decipher the Enigma code used by the Germans. A highlight of the day was the hands-on codebreaking session, where students tested their problem-solving skills before experiencing a rare moment of history; each student had the chance to press a key on an authentic Enigma machine. Reflecting on the experience, Leya, Angelina, and Meenatchi shared that they “learnt a lot about World War II” and found the visit to the mansion both interesting and fun. |
STEM Club |
Quote from STEM Club: "Today in STEM Club, we created slime and we were all really happy and grateful because we asked Dr Harvey and Mrs El-Ali if we could make it last week. My favourite colour was pink, and Olive's favourite colour was purple. Mrs El-Ali gave us glitter to put in the slime and it looked really pretty. We all had loads of fun and it was really easy to make!" - Nina - Year 9 |
